We're often asked if our services are covered by health insurance.  Please be aware that medical insurance companies require a diagnosis of a mental disorder in order to reimburse for psychotherapy, limit the amount and quality of your care, and may make the intimate details of your life available to third parties.  For these reasons, we do not accept direct payment from insurance companies.

We understand, though, that for some clients the financial benefits of insurance reimbursement outweigh the privacy concerns.  We are happy to provide a bill which includes the diagnosis and treatment codes most insurance companies require, which can be submitted by you to your insurance company for reimbursement.  If you would like to choose this route, please see Questions for My Insurance Company.

If finances are tight and your insurance only covers a few sessions (or none!), there are several non-profits in our community which provide counseling on a sliding scale fee.  We have been very impressed with Almaden Valley Counseling Service, (408) 997-0200. Although most of their therapists are not yet licensed, we have found them to be caring and competent.
